When it comes to Self Driving Cars, almost isn’t good enough and having a 99% object detection accuracy is completely unacceptable. With hundreds of companies racing to build autonomous cars, one piece of technology is key to all the efforts going in, to make this a successful initiative.
That one piece of tech, is known as LiDAR. This technology uses lasers to sense distances to a target, and then turns it into a 3-D representation of the environment. It’s how a self-driving car sees the world around it. In what could be a $7 trillion Industry, LiDAR is paving its way to become a mandatory piece of technology in every autonomous car. Many state that, this tech- is way better and a lot cheaper than whats available on the road today.
In a recent interview with Molly Wood from the MarketPlace, Austin Russell, the founder and CEO of LiDAR provider Luminar Technologies talks about LiDAR’s current limitations and its future. [Read more by clicking the link below.]
